When you send a campaign with the 'Include "Forward to a Friend" link' box checked on the campaign properties area an additional link is included in the footer of you mail. The link says 'Forward to a Friend'. When a recipient of your campaign clicks this link, they are taken to a Emercury hosted page that includes any branding you have configured. The recipient can then enter email addresses for people they would like to forward the campaign to. The formatting of your campaign will be preserved in the forwarded messages, whereas this might not be the case if the recipient forwards your campaign using their regular email program. The forwarded message also contains the same 'Forward to a Friend' link. It also contains a link to your basic subscribe form and encourages the referral to join your list.
Each forward, nested forward, and any subsequent new subscribers are counted and ascribed to the original subscriber to the list who made the first forward. These statistics can be viewed in reports. The total number of forwards per original subscriber is limited to twenty. This protects against malevolent abuse of the message forwarder and helps.
